Surface Test Exercise

Make an object no more then 1.5 inches in diameter.

Bisque it- feel free to use underglaze or engobe pre-bisque

Glaze to cone 10 (try to use glossy and matte).  Put on high-fire shelf.

After firing, glaze parts with 04 glaze, put on shelf to be fired.  Put note on piece to fire to 04 per Patti.

Then use luster, china-paint/enamel, and low fire decal and will will fire in test kiln.

What I've been making in my studio


The skirt was successfully loaded into the kiln with Bill's help, and will dry there, until I turn on the heat. It's full of holes for plants to grow through.
The persona who will wear the skirt has to dry for a couple weeks before a separate bisque.

About Patti Nelson: the instructor

Patti Nelson has an MFA in Ceramics from SUNY New Paltz, where she was a Sojourner Truth Fellow. She has a BA in Fine Art with departmental honors from Hunter College, NYC, and majored in Integrative Studies, International Relations and Women Studies with a minor in Comparative Religion from Hendrix College, Conway, AR.  Patti Nelson has shown nationally and internationally including DC, Seattle, and NYC (Chelsea and Brooklyn), and Budapest, Hungary. She has taught at the university level, in elementary schools, at the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, NY and currently teaches at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts in Philadelphia where she is the ceramics artist in residence.  She also currently serves as the director of Pegasus ArtWorks, the arts division of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. 

Her multi-media installation based (ceramics, video, and found materials), and often site specific work ask the viewer to look at the familiar in a new way and challenge assumptions of value, importance and use.
