A note from the instructor:

In these classes I consider myself a partner to help you get a you to where you want to go. I look at your past work, watch you work, and ask questions about what is important to you, what your goals include, and what art you are drawn to love.  These answers determine what tutorials and demonstrations I provide, what artists or books I steer you towards and how I direct your investigations.  My approach to each student is highly individualized with the students' goals in mind.  More often then not, I find that students (of all ages and levels of experience) understand more then they might at first give themselves credit for knowing about where their voice lies. 

ADVANCED PRACTICE IN CLAY Start Date: January 30, 2013 Time:01:00 PM - 04:00 PM Class meets every Wednesday until Wed Oct 31 2012 .  Tuition: $260 (Member $245) This class will reveal secrets of top ceramic artists for more successful hand building.  From building large, to building thin and strong, patch and repair, avoiding cracks, plus paper clay, staining, marbling clay and much more. This demonstration/tutorial class is sure to inspire and stretch imagination and skills for functional and sculptural artists at all levels. INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED HAND BUILDING Start Date: January 30, 2013 Time:07:00 PM - 10:00 PM Class meets every Wednesday until Wed Oct 31 2012 .  Tuition: $260 (Member $245) For those ready to break a rut, raise the bar, or learn new skills while having fun in a great community!  Intermediate to advanced clay or sculpture skills needed.  This class combines demo and tutorial in a small class setting to provide the maximum growth for each student.  Skills taught include advanced material understanding of clay and glaze, casting, the use of plaster, the use of casting slip for both casting and sculptural purposes, seamless repair and patching skills, and advanced surface techniques including alternative materials, and firing.  Students will find a supportive group of peers, individualized technical and critical support from the instructor as well as professional support for marketing and showing work.

Cheltenham Center for the Arts presents "Clay Possibilities"

Cheltenham Center for the Arts presents "Clay Possibilities"- an invitational of artists working in clay from the greater Philadelphia Area, juried by resident artists Patti Nelson and Laura Demme. "Clay Possibilities" poses the question to artists of what is possible in the medium of clay? Philadelphia Area artists have risen to the challenge, investigating the naturally occurring tension that exists in the medium of clay between tradition and innovation. From firing to technique, "Clay Possibilities" pu shes the viewer to expand the understanding of what clay can do and encourages us all to rethink "Clay Possibilities".
